The album’s ten songs poetically address some of the most profound quandaries of human existence – the relationship to a transcendent being, love, sexuality, loss and death. Arguably the most overtly spiritual of the revered artist’s albums, Old Ideas inspires commitment to a greater sense of compassion and decency.
While the recording of Old Ideas began in earnest in January 2011, many of the new songs and their lyrics have been in the works for years. Early versions of two album tracks, “Amen” and “Lullaby” were originally recorded in 2007, while early versions of “Lullaby” and “ The Darkness” were performed live during Cohen’s recently concluded, sold-out world tour.
The four songs that make up Beyond Magnetic EP are rough mixes of leftover songs from the Death Magnetic recording sessions of 2007 and 2008. Each of the songs were performed live during Metallica’s four-night 30th anniversary show in San Francisco in December, and then released to the band’s fan club members that evening.
“We kept them in the vault and decided to pull them just for this special celebration, so here are the four leftover tracks from the Death Magnetic sessions,” the band said. “They are rough mixes, unfinished to their original degree of mixing from March ’08.”
Born to Die is the second studio album and major label debut by American singer-songwriter Lana Del Rey. After signing a record contract with Stranger in June 2011, the singer released her debut single, “Video Games”, which is considered as the one that propelled the singer’s online popularity. Del Rey then started to give interviews to several newspapers and online magazines, as well as making live appearances to promote her work. The album’s second single, “Born to Die”, was released on December 30, 2011. Born to Die received generally favorable reviews from contemporary critics, who praised Del Rey’s vocal ability and the album’s distinctive sound.

From Craig Finn: In July 2011, I went to Austin, Texas to make a record. The Hold Steady was on a four month break, and I wanted to try something a little different. Earlier in the year, I had written a bunch of songs that were outside of the norm for The Hold Steady, a little quieter and perhaps more narrative. I also wanted to gain some experience and insight into the process of making a record by working with new people… When considering the songs as a whole, I realized that a lot of the songs deal with displacement, and people that are struggling while out of their element or comfort zone. A lof of the songs are about being alone. This is all pretty fertile ground for a musician that spends a lot of time on tour.
It’s also telling about the way we made this record, going to a friendly but fairly unfamiliar place to work with all new people. I’m calling this record “Clear Heart Full Eyes”. It’s a juxtaposed reference to Friday Night Lights, a TV show that excited and moved me and also happened in Texas. Further, “Clear Heart” signifies honesty and transparency and “Full Eyes” suggests experience. Thus, it’s about being optimistic and open without succumbing to the weariness or doubt that comes with age and experience. To me, that is what it’s all about. I hope you enjoy the music. I am very proud of it.
Thank you.
Since beginning his career with The Beatles in the 1960s, Ringo Starr has been one of the world’s brightest musical luminaries. He has enjoyed a successful and dynamic solo career as a singer, songwriter and drummer, an active musical collaborator, and as an actor. Drawing inspiration from classic blues, soul, country, honky-tonk and rock ‘n’ roll, Ringo continues to play an important role in modern music with his solo recording and touring. Guest performers include: Joe Walsh, Benmont Tench, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Dave Stewart, Don Was, Van Dyke Parks and Edgar Winter.

The angular, intricate, and intelligent compositions of HOSPITALITY signal a sophisticated new pop voice. Singer Amber Papini’s idiosyncratic songwriting coupled with the band’s rich arrangements on their self-titled debut explore youth, New York, and the bittersweet commingling of past and present in a way that feels just right, right now. Papini’s singing has a wisp of an English accent via Kansas City (she learned to sing by imitating Richard Butler on The Psychedelic Furs’ ‘Talk Talk Talk’) and her lyrics create a moonstruck, even cinematic vision of New York City, where the band formed in 2007.

The fifth album by IMPERIAL TEEN, ‘Feel The Sound’, succeeds completely at its goal, plainly stated in the collection’s title. From the exhilarating, propulsive “Runaway”, which features the entire band on lead vocals (how many other groups can make that claim?), to the expansive final statement of “Overtaken”, Roddy Bottum, Lynn Perko Truell, Will Schwartz, and Jone Stebbins feel the sound themselves and, in turn, make the listener feel it in ways immediate, pleasurable, and haunting. ELO-like symphonic pop has become a touchstone for everyone from Justice to Cut Copy in recent years, but ‘Feel The Sound’ makes it manifest through live instrumentation that possesses a Krautrock level of intuitive synchronicity and a desert island jukebox’s sense of fun.

Ryan Gosling stars as a Hollywood stunt driver for movies by day and moonlights as a wheelman for criminals by night. Though a loner by nature, “Driver” can’t help falling in love with his beautiful neighbour Irene (Carey Mulligan), a young mother dragged into a dangerous underworld by the return of her ex-convict husband. After a heist goes wrong, Driver finds himself driving defense for the girl he loves, tailgated by a syndicate of deadly serious criminals (Albert Brooks and Ron Perlman). Soon he realizes the gangsters are after more than the bag of cash and is forced to shift gears and go on the offense.

Upon reaching 25, the countdown begins and in order to stay alive everyone must work to buy themselves more time or die within a year. The rich can buy their way out of the situation, while the rest are left to negotiate for immortality. But as they settle into their new life, they discover their perfect home was the murder scene of a mother and her children. And the entire city believes it was at the hands of the husband who survived. When Will investigates, he’s not sure if he’s starting to see ghosts or if the tragic story is just hitting too close to home. His only clues come from Ann Paterson (Watts), a mysterious neighbor who knew those who were shot. And as Will and Ann piece together the haunting puzzle, they must find out who murdered the family in Will’s dream house before he returns to kill again.

The result is this collection of evocative songs, an album that fits beside Bruce Springsteen’s Nebraska, Sun Kil Moon’s Ghosts Of The Great Highway, Mountain Goats’ Tallahassee. Provincial is a record full of fierce, tuneful, vivid stories.

Rumer left school at 16 and drifted around England, attending Art College in Devon before joining a fledgling indie band, La Honda. Everything changed when her mother was diagnosed with breast cancer. Rumer dealt with her pain by writing a series of intensely powerful songs, documenting her personal journey through grief. She returned to London upon her mother’s death in 2003, performing anywhere and everywhere she could, ultimately catching the attention of producer/composer Steve Brown. Together the two musicians began crafting what would become “Seasons Of My Soul.” In addition, Rumer also had a fateful encounter with one of her personal heroes, the legendary Burt Bacharach, who flew her to Los Angeles after hearing the album’s extraordinary first single, “Slow.” Earning the master’s approval was just the beginning of what’s proven to be a somewhat dizzying ride for Rumer.

So I guess I feel a bit analogous to what these songs become to me—you know little ways for me to explore my record collection, explore the world of sound that I’m fascinated by, and also sometimes get a different perspective on memories and emotions I’ve been mulling over that they find voice in these songs”
