On Fossils, as with their previous outings, the band is not embarrassed to wear its influences on its sleeve. From the twisted, indie rock, Metric -like riffs on ‘Catapults’ and “Knockdown Dance” to the Radioheadesque guitar climbs on ‘Tunnel Lights’, to the bombastic drums, reminiscent of Florence and the Machine on “Hands and Knees”, the band draws from a wide swath of indie rock royalty. Fossils was produced by Jeff Dawson at Hipposonic Studios in Vancouver, and mixed by John O’Mahoney (Metric, Coldplay).

The overall strategic plan for Chad is a move from his debut album right into his sophomore effort “Love Me Or Leave Me” without a break to keep the traction rolling. The launch of Chad’s sophomore effort will be methodical in execution to garner as much interest in Chad and his music as possible. Efforts intend to provide his fan base continual new music with great lyrics and high production values, all while attracting new fans and truly creating a Canadian Country Music Star.

Islands’ new album A Sleep & A Forgetting continues the band’s penchant for crafting adventuresome and infectious state of the art pop music. But this time band-leader Nick Thorburn has infused the songs with a personal introspection that gives the record a new and powerful emotional resonance. “This album is far more personal than any I’ve made before,” Thorburn explains. “I left New York after the end of a relationship and came to Los Angeles. There was a piano where I was staying and that’s where I wrote these songs. This record deals with loss, with memory and forgetting and with dreaming. I started writing it on Valentine’s Day and it’s coming out on Valentine’s Day.” The new album was produced by Thorburn and fellow Islands member Evan Gordon in less than two weeks, the 11 songs recorded live with hardly a single overdub. It’s a stripped down process and beautifully understated sound which only reinforces the confessional content of the lyrics.

What’s more punk rock than being a punk in the Middle East? Nothing. Which is why Israeli miscreants USELESS ID are not only the longstanding ambassadors of Middle East punk rock, but they’re also way punker than you. Armed with 18 years of experience and a tour history that includes such out of the way spots as China, Belarus and even Siberia, these boys from Haifa City have finally found a home with long time friends Fat Wreck Chords for the release of ‘Symptoms’. When it came time to record Symptoms, Useless ID trekked back to the States from Haifa to record at The Blasting Room (Rise Against, NOFX, Alkaline Trio) with the renowned Bill Stevenson (Descendents, Black Flag). The result is a monumental combustion of in your face, razor sharp production, and undeniably skilled punk rock songwriting.

The Boston Globe says of the band, “This top shelf acoustic quintet is a virtuosic revelation,” while the Chicago Tribune says, “Their breathtaking virtuosity isn’t about soloing but complex ensemble unity, with a cumulative power that leaves the listener pleasantly rung out.”

Every Kingdom is a record that young West Country singer-songwriter Ben Howard has been brewing within himself for at least a couple of years. And yet its careful attention to detail, with tight, homespun harmonies and folk-informed arrangements, could only have been fully realised after relentless road-testing of these songs on stages across the UK and Europe. There has been something very natural in taking that early appeal to a wider audience, and that natural vibe resonates throughout his music too, all recorded within a crumbling, creaking barn in rural Devonshire, and nestled between the moors and the sea. Every Kingdom is an album that captures the rawness and intimacy of Ben’s live performance. The deftness of touch, the spellbinding nature of those six strings carefully finger-plucked, rapped knuckles on the body of the guitar, and Ben’s otherworldly vocal cries are spun and woven sublimely.

Based on the debut novel by Hunter S. Thompson, The Rum Diary tells the increasingly unhinged story of itinerant journalist Paul Kemp (Johnny Depp). Tiring of the noise and madness of New York and the crushing conventions of late Eisenhower-era America, Kemp travels to the pristine island of Puerto Rico to write for a local newspaper, The San Juan Star, run by downtrodden editor Lotterman (Richard Jenkins). Adopting the rum-soaked life of the island, Paul soon becomes obsessed with Chenault (Amber Heard), the wildly attractive Connecticut-born fiancée of Sanderson (Aaron Eckhart). Sanderson, a businessman involved in shady property development deals, is one of a growing number of American entrepreneurs who are determined to convert Puerto Rico into a capitalist paradise in service of the wealthy. When Kemp is recruited by Sanderson to write favorably about his latest unsavory scheme, the journalist is presented with a choice: to use his words for the corrupt businessmen’s financial benefit, or use them to take the bastards down.

Following his acclaimed debut, Shotgun Stories, writer/director Jeff Nichols reteams with actor Michael Shannon to create a haunting tale that will creep under your skin and expose your darkest fears. Curtis LaForche lives in a small town in Ohio with his wife, Samantha, and daughter, Hannah, a six-year-old deaf girl. When Curtis begins to have terrifying dreams, he keeps the visions to himself, channeling his anxiety into obsessively building a storm shelter in his backyard. His seemingly inexplicable behavior concerns and confounds those closest to him, but the resulting strain on his marriage and tension within his community can’t compare with Curtis’s privately held fear of what his dreams may truly signify. Take Shelter features fully realized characters crumbling under the weight of real-life problems. Using tone and atmosphere to chilling effect, Nichols crafts a powerful psychological thriller that is a disturbing tale for our times.

Van Halen remains one of the most important and influential bands of all time. Formed in Los Angeles in 1974, the band quickly won a loyal hometown fan base with their electrifying live shows. From the moment they released their self-titled 1978 debut album, Van Halen shook the foundations of rock, thanks largely to Roth’s peerless showmanship, Eddie Van Halen’s revolutionary guitar virtuosity and their songwriting abilities. It changed rock music forever.

A Different Kind of Truth is the 12th studio album by American hard rock band Van Halen. It is the band’s first album of completely new material since 1998’s Van Halen III, as well as the first since 1984’s 1984 to feature David Lee Roth on lead vocals, and the first to feature Wolfgang Van Halen on bass guitar.

Following in the footsteps of his critically acclaimed, Grammy-nominated Up On The Ridge album, Dierks Bentley releases his sixth studio album of new music, Home. The inspiring video for the upcoming album’s anthemic title single, “Home,” features iconic images of both the history and humanity of America. “My home is in Nashville with my family, my home is on the road with our fans and my home is definitely in country music,” said Dierks. “This album is more than a year’s worth of writing, recording and testing out material on the road in front of our hard core fans. The end result is an album that runs through all the types of country songs and sounds I enjoy singing and playing. I can’t wait to share it with the fans!”

Scars and Stories was recorded at the legendary Blackbird Studios in Nashville. The Fray was able to hone their sound with the help of producer Brendan O’Brien (Bruce Springsteen, Pearl Jam and Neil Young). On the new recording, the band transforms their real life experiences into a collection of songs that are reflective, but still maintain a pop sensibility. The making of Scars and Stories fostered the most evolution the band has ever experienced, both lyrically and musically.

The UK’s most successful duo of all time need no introduction – The Pet Shop Boys’ 12 UK Top 10 albums (with 7 certified platinum and total sales over 2.5 million records) and their 40 UK Top 20 singles (with 5.4 million sold in the UK alone) simply speak for themselves.

Their mountain of hit singles also contain a perhaps less well-known but equally exquisite collection of b-sides and bonus tracks. To celebrate this prolific song-writing and recording, an incredible 38 b-sides and bonus tracks have now been collected together from singles released between 1996 to 2009, to create ‘Format’. Available as a 2CD in a lift-off lid box, all tracks on ‘Format’ have been remastered and the box booklet features an interview with Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe by Jon Savage (author of ‘England’s Dreaming’ and ‘Teenage’).

Much like its predecessor, the 12 songs on Barchords defy simple categorization. Jurvanen’s vocal delivery and masterful playing create a distinctive sound that is both delicate and intense. His soulful folk features sparse arrangements where the space is as powerful as the performance. Jurvanen is what Esquire calls “a young master of restraint and subtlety.” While incorporating the understated blues of the opening track “Lost In The Light” to the pop-infused “Caught Me Thinkin” (which has quickly become a live show favourite,) to the classic standard feel of “Time and Time Again,” Jurvanen always maintains a style all his own.

Rockabye Baby transforms timeless rock songs into beautiful instrumental lullabies. Guitars and drums are traded for soothing mellotrons, vibraphones and bells, and the volume is turned down from an eleven to a two. Rockabye Baby is the perfect way to share the music you love with the littlest rocker in your life.

Just can’t get enough sleep? Babies are babies but why should it be that you get no peace. Rockabye Baby answers your prayer for a night of joyous silence. The next time your little one plans on being up all night, try spinning our lullaby renditions of these Depeche Mode favorites. It’s all the baby ever wanted and all they’ve ever needed.

Beloved Philadelphia band Dr. Dog are poised to release a staggering burst of vital rock ‘n’ roll with their new record Be The Void. The album is the raucous follow up to the group’s critically lauded Shame, Shame. Having evolved from a band whose primary creative outlet was the album-making process into one that favored the energy of their live performances, Dr. Dog knew they wanted to document the new dynamic they had developed on the road. Tracking live in the studio and turning up the guitars, the band has delivered a truly great cathartic rock ‘n’ roll album played with near reckless abandon and passion, blending their early punk-infused energy with the songwriting craft that made Fate and Shame, Shame fan favorites.

Andrew Lloyd Webber’s The Phantom Of The Opera is a worldwide entertainment phenomenon, and the original cast recording album remains one of the biggest selling music titles of all time.
To celebrate its 25th Anniversary year, Andrew Lloyd Webber and Cameron Mackintosh presented The Phantom Of The Opera in a fully-staged, lavish production, set in the sumptuous Victorian splendour of the Royal Albert Hall. The spectacular event, a once in a lifetime performance anniversary of the world’s greatest musical, brought together a cast and orchestra of 200 led by Ramin Karimloo (The Phantom) and Sierra Boggess (Christine), both of whom were returning to roles for which they received international critical acclaim. The live, sell-out performance marked the climax of a three performance, gala production at the Royal Albert Hall that reunited original leads Michael Crawford (The Phantom) and Sarah Brightman (Christine ), in a memorable final curtain call.

From Cormac McCarthy, author of NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN and THE ROAD comes this searing two character drama about the choice people frequently make; to go on or give in to despair. Set in a New York tenement apartment, the story focuses on two very different men, a black ex-con (Samuel L. Jackson) who claims to hear the voice of Jesus, and the white professor (Academy Award® winner Tommy Lee Jones) he stopped from throwing himself in front of an oncoming train, The Sunset Limited. What follows is a philosophical debate with incredibly high stakes – can Black convince White that life is worth living, that once he goes out that door he should not head for a return date with the Sunset Limited? Souls are bared and secrets shared, with Black’s faith increasingly challenged by White’s bleak but meticulously reasoned view of a world gone wrong. The conflict reaches a shattering conclusion that will leave you thinking well after the final frame.

Although they have fun together on several dates, including a sentimental spaghetti dinner by moonlight at Tony’s restaurant, their relationship is strained not only by Lady’s loyalty to her human family and their newborn baby, but by Tramp’s devil-may-care attitude that eventually gets Lady in trouble and tossed into the dog pound. However, good-hearted Tramp redeems himself by saving the baby from potential harm and thus wins Lady’s love and the affection of her human family.

The album’s ten songs poetically address some of the most profound quandaries of human existence – the relationship to a transcendent being, love, sexuality, loss and death. Arguably the most overtly spiritual of the revered artist’s albums, Old Ideas inspires commitment to a greater sense of compassion and decency.
While the recording of Old Ideas began in earnest in January 2011, many of the new songs and their lyrics have been in the works for years. Early versions of two album tracks, “Amen” and “Lullaby” were originally recorded in 2007, while early versions of “Lullaby” and “ The Darkness” were performed live during Cohen’s recently concluded, sold-out world tour.
The four songs that make up Beyond Magnetic EP are rough mixes of leftover songs from the Death Magnetic recording sessions of 2007 and 2008. Each of the songs were performed live during Metallica’s four-night 30th anniversary show in San Francisco in December, and then released to the band’s fan club members that evening.
“We kept them in the vault and decided to pull them just for this special celebration, so here are the four leftover tracks from the Death Magnetic sessions,” the band said. “They are rough mixes, unfinished to their original degree of mixing from March ’08.”
Born to Die is the second studio album and major label debut by American singer-songwriter Lana Del Rey. After signing a record contract with Stranger in June 2011, the singer released her debut single, “Video Games”, which is considered as the one that propelled the singer’s online popularity. Del Rey then started to give interviews to several newspapers and online magazines, as well as making live appearances to promote her work. The album’s second single, “Born to Die”, was released on December 30, 2011. Born to Die received generally favorable reviews from contemporary critics, who praised Del Rey’s vocal ability and the album’s distinctive sound.

From Craig Finn: In July 2011, I went to Austin, Texas to make a record. The Hold Steady was on a four month break, and I wanted to try something a little different. Earlier in the year, I had written a bunch of songs that were outside of the norm for The Hold Steady, a little quieter and perhaps more narrative. I also wanted to gain some experience and insight into the process of making a record by working with new people… When considering the songs as a whole, I realized that a lot of the songs deal with displacement, and people that are struggling while out of their element or comfort zone. A lof of the songs are about being alone. This is all pretty fertile ground for a musician that spends a lot of time on tour.
It’s also telling about the way we made this record, going to a friendly but fairly unfamiliar place to work with all new people. I’m calling this record “Clear Heart Full Eyes”. It’s a juxtaposed reference to Friday Night Lights, a TV show that excited and moved me and also happened in Texas. Further, “Clear Heart” signifies honesty and transparency and “Full Eyes” suggests experience. Thus, it’s about being optimistic and open without succumbing to the weariness or doubt that comes with age and experience. To me, that is what it’s all about. I hope you enjoy the music. I am very proud of it.
Thank you.
The angular, intricate, and intelligent compositions of HOSPITALITY signal a sophisticated new pop voice. Singer Amber Papini’s idiosyncratic songwriting coupled with the band’s rich arrangements on their self-titled debut explore youth, New York, and the bittersweet commingling of past and present in a way that feels just right, right now. Papini’s singing has a wisp of an English accent via Kansas City (she learned to sing by imitating Richard Butler on The Psychedelic Furs’ ‘Talk Talk Talk’) and her lyrics create a moonstruck, even cinematic vision of New York City, where the band formed in 2007.

The fifth album by IMPERIAL TEEN, ‘Feel The Sound’, succeeds completely at its goal, plainly stated in the collection’s title. From the exhilarating, propulsive “Runaway”, which features the entire band on lead vocals (how many other groups can make that claim?), to the expansive final statement of “Overtaken”, Roddy Bottum, Lynn Perko Truell, Will Schwartz, and Jone Stebbins feel the sound themselves and, in turn, make the listener feel it in ways immediate, pleasurable, and haunting. ELO-like symphonic pop has become a touchstone for everyone from Justice to Cut Copy in recent years, but ‘Feel The Sound’ makes it manifest through live instrumentation that possesses a Krautrock level of intuitive synchronicity and a desert island jukebox’s sense of fun.

Ryan Gosling stars as a Hollywood stunt driver for movies by day and moonlights as a wheelman for criminals by night. Though a loner by nature, “Driver” can’t help falling in love with his beautiful neighbour Irene (Carey Mulligan), a young mother dragged into a dangerous underworld by the return of her ex-convict husband. After a heist goes wrong, Driver finds himself driving defense for the girl he loves, tailgated by a syndicate of deadly serious criminals (Albert Brooks and Ron Perlman). Soon he realizes the gangsters are after more than the bag of cash and is forced to shift gears and go on the offense.

When paleontologist Kate Lloyd (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) travels to an isolated outpost in Antarctica for the expedition of a lifetime, she joins an international team that unearths a remarkable discovery. Their elation quickly turns to fear as they realize that their experiment has freed a mysterious being from its frozen prison. Paranoia spreads like an epidemic as a creature that can mimic anything it touches will pit human against human as it tries to survive and flourish in this spine-tingling thriller.

In the future, time has become the ultimate currency and genetic alteration has allowed people to stop aging at 25 years old. Upon reaching 25, the countdown begins and in order to stay alive everyone must work to buy themselves more time or die within a year. The rich can buy their way out of the situation, while the rest are left to negotiate for immortality. Falsely accused of murder, Will is a fugitive on the run and becomes determined to bring down the entire system by any means possible.

But as they settle into their new life, they discover their perfect home was the murder scene of a mother and her children. And the entire city believes it was at the hands of the husband who survived. When Will investigates, he’s not sure if he’s starting to see ghosts or if the tragic story is just hitting too close to home. His only clues come from Ann Paterson (Watts), a mysterious neighbor who knew those who were shot. And as Will and Ann piece together the haunting puzzle, they must find out who murdered the family in Will’s dream house before he returns to kill again.

The result is this collection of evocative songs, an album that fits beside Bruce Springsteen’s Nebraska, Sun Kil Moon’s Ghosts Of The Great Highway, Mountain Goats’ Tallahassee. Provincial is a record full of fierce, tuneful, vivid stories.

Rumer left school at 16 and drifted around England, attending Art College in Devon before joining a fledgling indie band, La Honda. Everything changed when her mother was diagnosed with breast cancer. Rumer dealt with her pain by writing a series of intensely powerful songs, documenting her personal journey through grief. She returned to London upon her mother’s death in 2003, performing anywhere and everywhere she could, ultimately catching the attention of producer/composer Steve Brown. Together the two musicians began crafting what would become “Seasons Of My Soul.” In addition, Rumer also had a fateful encounter with one of her personal heroes, the legendary Burt Bacharach, who flew her to Los Angeles after hearing the album’s extraordinary first single, “Slow.” Earning the master’s approval was just the beginning of what’s proven to be a somewhat dizzying ride for Rumer.
