ELIAS
Fossils
www.eliasband.com
Dist: Warner Music Canada
Follow up to the top 20 hit album Lasting Distraction, Fossils is the highly anticipated sophomore album from critically acclaimed Vancouver indie rock band Elias. On Fossils, as with their previous outings, the band is not embarrassed to wear its influences on its sleeve. From the twisted, indie rock, Metric -like riffs on ‘Catapults’ and “Knockdown Dance” to the Radioheadesque guitar climbs on ‘Tunnel Lights’, to the bombastic drums, reminiscent of Florence and the Machine on “Hands and Knees”, the band draws from a wide swath of indie rock royalty. Fossils was produced by Jeff Dawson at Hipposonic Studios in Vancouver, and mixed by John O’Mahoney (Metric, Coldplay).
CHAD BROWNLEE
Love Me Or Leave Me

Dist: EMI Music Canada
In an era where music fans are fickle and competition is fierce, Chad Brownlee continues to grow his fan base, attracting new followers during his travels. The overall strategic plan for Chad is a move from his debut album right into his sophomore effort “Love Me Or Leave Me” without a break to keep the traction rolling. The launch of Chad’s sophomore effort will be methodical in execution to garner as much interest in Chad and his music as possible. Efforts intend to provide his fan base continual new music with great lyrics and high production values, all while attracting new fans and truly creating a Canadian Country Music Star.
ISLANDS
A Sleep & A Forgetting
islandsareforever.com
Dist: F.A.B.
Islands’ new album A Sleep & A Forgetting continues the band’s penchant for crafting adventuresome and infectious state of the art pop music. But this time band-leader Nick Thorburn has infused the songs with a personal introspection that gives the record a new and powerful emotional resonance. “This album is far more personal than any I’ve made before,” Thorburn explains. “I left New York after the end of a relationship and came to Los Angeles. There was a piano where I was staying and that’s where I wrote these songs. This record deals with loss, with memory and forgetting and with dreaming. I started writing it on Valentine’s Day and it’s coming out on Valentine’s Day.” The new album was produced by Thorburn and fellow Islands member Evan Gordon in less than two weeks, the 11 songs recorded live with hardly a single overdub. It’s a stripped down process and beautifully understated sound which only reinforces the confessional content of the lyrics.
USELESS ID
Symptoms
www.uselessid.net
Dist: F.A.B.
What’s more punk rock than being a punk in the Middle East? Nothing. Which is why Israeli miscreants USELESS ID are not only the longstanding ambassadors of Middle East punk rock, but they’re also way punker than you. Armed with 18 years of experience and a tour history that includes such out of the way spots as China, Belarus and even Siberia, these boys from Haifa City have finally found a home with long time friends Fat Wreck Chords for the release of ‘Symptoms’. When it came time to record Symptoms, Useless ID trekked back to the States from Haifa to record at The Blasting Room (Rise Against, NOFX, Alkaline Trio) with the renowned Bill Stevenson (Descendents, Black Flag). The result is a monumental combustion of in your face, razor sharp production, and undeniably skilled punk rock songwriting.

The Boston Globe says of the band, “This top shelf acoustic quintet is a virtuosic revelation,” while the Chicago Tribune says, “Their breathtaking virtuosity isn’t about soloing but complex ensemble unity, with a cumulative power that leaves the listener pleasantly rung out.”
BEN HOWARD
Every Kingdom
benhowardmusic.co.uk
Dist: Universal Music Canada
Every Kingdom is a record that young West Country singer-songwriter Ben Howard has been brewing within himself for at least a couple of years. And yet its careful attention to detail, with tight, homespun harmonies and folk-informed arrangements, could only have been fully realised after relentless road-testing of these songs on stages across the UK and Europe. There has been something very natural in taking that early appeal to a wider audience, and that natural vibe resonates throughout his music too, all recorded within a crumbling, creaking barn in rural Devonshire, and nestled between the moors and the sea. Every Kingdom is an album that captures the rawness and intimacy of Ben’s live performance. The deftness of touch, the spellbinding nature of those six strings carefully finger-plucked, rapped knuckles on the body of the guitar, and Ben’s otherworldly vocal cries are spun and woven sublimely.
