ARKELLS
Michigan Left

http://arkells.ca
Dist: Universal Music Canada

Having spent the last few years writing new material while on the road, this past spring Arkells retreated to Bath, Ontario to record Michigan Left, living and recording in a converted house on the shores of Lake Ontario. Formed in Hamilton, Ontario, Arkells (Max Kerman, Mike DeAngelis, Dan Griffin, Nick Dika, Tim Oxford) have become one of Canada’s most acclaimed rock outfits. In 2008, the band released their super-charged debut CD, Jackson Square and toured relentlessly coast-to-coast impressing fans and critics alike with their adrenalin-infused live show. In 2010, Arkells were propelled further into the national spotlight, garnering The Juno Award for ‘New Group of The Year’; The Canadian Music Week Indie Award for ‘Favourite Live Artist/Group’; and Canadian Radio Music Award for ‘FACTOR Breakthrough Artist’.

JANE’S ADDICTION
The Great Escape Artist

janesaddiction.com
Dist: EMI Music Canada

Great bands break rules, but legends write their own. JANE’S ADDICTION – back again with The Great Escape Artist, their first studio album in eight years – have actually written the rule book for alternative music and culture through a combination of genre-defying classic songs and a cinematic live experience. Their songs serve as the Ten Commandments for alt rock, inspiring an entire generation of bands such as Nirvana, Rage Against the Machine, Nine Inch Nails, Smashing Pumpkins, Pearl Jam and Tool. Acclaimed for their swirling sonic symphony and unique studio alchemy, Jane’s Addiction have sold over seven million records in North America alone. They’ve also garnered Grammy nominations and spearheaded the movement of modern American festival culture by launching and headlining Lollapalooza.

EVERLAST
Songs Of The Ungrateful Living

www.martyr-inc.com
Dist: EMI Music Canada

Easily considered one of the most important and creative musicians of our generation, EVERLAST has made a name for himself across multi-genres throughout his career. Whether by founding the influential hip hop groups HOUSE OF PAIN and LA COKA NOSTRA, writing the Carlos Santana Grammy winning track “Put Your Lights On”, penning Emmy nominated songs for hit television shows (SAVING GRACE), or his WHITEY FORD brand of Americana, EVERLAST has constantly evolved and continues to make music that is timeless.

CHRIS ISAAK
Beyond The Sun

www.chrisisaak.com
Dist: EMI Music Canada

After more than a quarter of a century into his career, Chris Isaak has finally created the album he’s always wanted to make. Beyond the Sun, Isaak’s first Vanguard Records release out Oct. 18 —is truly a labor of love. As a child spinning his parents 45s in their Stockton, California home, this deeply committed artist has been obsessed with the glory days of Memphis’ Sun Studio and the visionary artists who got their starts there—including Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Roy Orbison, Carl Perkins and Jerry Lee Lewis—all of them discovered and nurtured by the late, great Sun Records founder Sam Phillips. Now, at long last, Isaak has acted on this lifelong obsession, magically recapturing the transformative hepcat brilliance of the classic sides cut by these greats at Sun with Phillips during the mid-’50s, while also getting down to the heart and soul of his own deeply rooted musical identity.

Often compared to the likes of Gordon Lightfoot and Bruce Cockburn, McLauchlan is a Canadian icon and household name and has crafted an unparalleled career, creating album after album of musical masterpieces. Murray’s first album in six years, Human Writes, is a breathtaking journey with one of Canada’s most influential songwriters. In this 10 song collection of new original songs, Murray illuminates the tapestry of the human experience and reveals the world though his eyes. THEY CALL ME RICO
They Call Me Rico

www.theycallmerico.com
Dist: Universal Music Canada

They Call Me Rico is a brand new solo spin from Madcaps lead vocalist, Frédéric Pellerin, aka: Rico. Armed only with a guitar, amp, drums and the occasional accompaniment of a cameo-making musician, They Call Me Rico is a stripped down, soul exposure of a show that serves up an all-natural, preservative free, music. Period. The self-titled debut features original material and covers from the likes of Tom Waits, Bob Dylan, Elvis Presley, and Robert Johnson. To capture the energy of Rico’s performance and preserve its authenticity, the album was recorded live in studio with no overdubs, on analog magnetic tape. The results, as you will hear, are most convincing.

ICED EARTH
Dystopia

www.icedearth.com
Dist: EMI Music Canada

ICED EARTH’s 10th studio offering, Dystopia, while not a concept album, founder Jon Schaffer admits there are unifying themes to several of the songs – and even an appearance by band mascot “Set Abominae.” In much the same way Horror Show (the band’s tribute to classic characters from literature and movies) was born, band leader John Schaffer said his interest in dystopian themes in music and movies led him to try his hand at that genre as well – even paying homage on the new album to the movies Dark City, V For Vendetta, and Soylent Green. The end result is ICED EARTH meets the nightmarish offspring of Brave New World and Blade Runner.

KATHERINE JENKINS
Daydream

www.katherinejenkins.co.uk
Dist: Warner Music Canada

Her most personal album to date, it draws together music and songs she loves from across classical, traditional, folk and easy pop that have inspired her over the course of her life. Recorded in Los Angeles and London in spring this year, Katherine has once again teamed up with John Shanks in the U.S and Simon Franglen in London. Capturing what audiences love about Katherine – her astonishing vocal range, her championing of great songs, always willing to test new ground – Daydream reflects on the exciting stage that she now has reached in her life and career.

Dist: Warner Music Canada

Morris Day, Jesse Johnson, Jimmy Jam, Terry Lewis, Garry “Jellybean” Johnson, Jerome Benton and Monte Moir revitalize the sound of Minneapolis Funk! From their origins in the 80’s as Prince’s first pet project led by the cocky protégé Day, this playful, brash group delivered groundbreaking funk-rock dance grooves. Now, for the first time since the 90’s, the original members of The Time have reuinited as The Original 7ven to deliver an inventive and unapologetically funky album!

HARLAN PEPPER
Young And Old

www.harlanpepper.com
Dist: Warner Music Canada

Formed in 2008, Harlan Pepper are four young men from Hamilton playing music with an old soul. Channelling the ghosts of long-gone AM car radios and haunting the dusty aisles of small town vinyl record bins, Jimmy Hayes (guitar, pedal steel, harmonica), Dan Edmonds (banjo, keys, vocals), Thompson Wilson (bass, vocals), and Marlon Nicolle (drums, vocals) are barely out of high school. Recorded at Hamilton’s Vibewrangler Studio with Aaron Goldstein (Huron, Espanola) Young And Old conjures up a session where Gram Parsons, Buck Owens and Hank Williams pay a Basement Tapes visit to sit in with contemporaries like Joel Plaskett and Jeff Tweedy.

JAMES COHEN AND THE PRAIRIE ROOTS ROCKERS
James Cohen And The Prairie Roots Rockers

Neil Young or Burton Cummings may not have been peers of singer-songwriter James Cohen when he was growing up in Winnipeg, as they had long split town by the time he started penning his first tunes. But there is no denying the influence the recordings, live performance, songwriting and compositional skills, creative sparks and collective work ethic that these sons of Winnipeg had on a young James Cohen. As he readied himself to record his new self-titled record, his fifth studio album, he was aware that the set of songs he was about to document were, “largely written around three central themes: the passage of time, human relationships, and regret.”
“I had an on-going fascination with the way people measure and mark their lives with specific dates and objects, and the relationships and interactions that influence those life events,” states Cohen of the songs that are found on his new album.
