LINDSEY BUCKINGHAM
Seeds We Sow
lindseybuckingham.com
Dist: Universal Music Canada
“Seeds We Sow” is the new studio album from Lindsey Buckingham, his first since “Gift Of Screws” in 2008. The album is a showcase for his distinctive guitar picking style and instantly recognisable voice. The songs cover a broad spectrum from the simple guitar and vocals of the opening title track through the rockier style of “That’s The Way Love Goes” to the more complex arrangement and harmonies of “When She Comes Down”. Lindsey Buckingham recorded “Seeds We Sow” in his home studio in Los Angeles and played the majority of the instruments himself as well as mixing and producing. A new Lindsey Buckingham album is always to be treasured and “Seeds We Sow” fully lives up to the high standards he has previously set himself both as a solo artist and with Fleetwood Mac.

Listen To Me: Buddy Holly
Dist: E1
Listen To Me: Buddy Holly, is an extraordinary new collection featuring contemporary takes on songs originally written and performed by the late, great Buddy Holly. Listen To Me: Buddy Holly features a remarkable line-up of artists paying tribute to the iconic work of an artist many consider to be the first true “singer/songwriter” performer of the rock ‘n’ roll era. Among those contributing brand-new recordings to the collection are Stevie Nicks, Patrick Stump, Jeff Lynne, Natalie Merchant, Imelda May, Lyle Lovett, Jackson Browne, The Fray, Cobra Starship, Brian Wilson, Chris Isaak, Pat Monahan (of Train), Zooey Deschanel, Eric Idle, and the one and only Ringo Starr.

HANK 3
Ghost to a Ghost/Guttertown, Attention Deficient Domination, Cattle Callin

Dist: Sony Music Canada
Armed with an unprecedented three brand new albums – the double-country Ghost to a Ghost/Guttertown, the doom-rock Attention Deficient Domination, and the speed-metal Cattle Callin – all to be released through his very own, just-launched label Hank3 Records. All three of Hank3’s new releases were recorded at The Haunted Ranch, Hank3’s home and studio just outside of Nashville. He wrote the bulk of the songs that appear on the 41-track Ghost to a Ghost/Guttertown, a straight-shooting country collection, flavored with Hank3’s trademark Hellbilly sound, and heavily weighted with Cajun influence and an ambient, lonesome mood. Ghost to a Ghose features guest appearances by Tom Waits, Alan King of Hellstomper, Les Claypool of Primus fame, Dave Sherman, Troy Medlin, and Hank3’s dog, Trooper. Attention Deficit Domination allows the listener into Hank3’s crunching, metal world of the heavy and the slow, complete with his renowned, fundamental percussion. The nine tracks hardly allow you to get up from the floor. The 23-track Cattle Callin features Hank3’s driving, formidable guitar attack, with instrumentation built around the auctioneering (provided by legendary auctioneers Mitch Jordan and Tim Dowler) and, in some cases, his own higher-register vocal treatment laid over the top. You’ve never heard anything like it.
THE HORRIBLE CROWS

Most of us know Brian Fallon as the frontman for the Gaslight Anthem, an act who started out in Jersey basements and slowly built their way up to headlining New York’s Radio City Music Hall. Despite the success Fallon has had with his main band he’s always loved decidedly less rocking acts such as the Afghan Whigs and Tom Waits. The Horrible Crowes – his new side-project alongside longtime friend Ian Perkins – is his lounge-friendly tip of the hat to the acts who have shaped another side of his musical vision.

SAMANTHA SAVAGE SMITH
Tough Cookie
www.myspace.com/samanthasavage
Dist: EMI Music Canada
Samantha Savage Smith is a pixie sized, blonde, blue-eyed, knock out, visually and vocally. With a lilting voice, the songs, the skills, the confidence and enough chunky guitar riffs in her 24 year-old little finger, to instantly captivate and charm any audience. Heavily influenced by blues, jazz, and indie-rock and inspired by her love of classic interpreters such as Anita O’Day and Billie Holiday as well as present-day songsmiths like St. Vincent and Dan Auerbach of The Black Keys, the album is a nod to her musical muses, filtered through Samantha’s quirky and introspective style. Samantha gives us sparse, stripped-down accompaniments that support her pretty melodies and heart-on-her-sleeve, personal lyrics. Tough Cookie was recorded by Matheson in 2010 at his Arch Audio Studio in Calgary.

YACHT
Shangri-La
teamyacht.com
Dist: F.A.B.
‘Shangri-La’, YACHT’s second album for DFA Records and the follow-up to their critically acclaimed full-length, ‘See Mystery Lights’, is the duo’s most thematically ambitious work to date, showcasing an exponential evolution in songwriting and sharp, surreal hooks. In contrast to the meditative, mantra-esque quality of their debut, ‘Shangri-La’ is a narrative work. The album explores mankind’s eternal pursuit of Utopia with a soundtrack comprised of compelling pop melodies, fiercely druggy grooves and an endlessly diverse canon of influences. The message here is that the future is a blank slate upon which anything can be imposed. Yacht has transformed themselves, taking advantage of a proper studio for the very first time and using more live instrumentation than ever before. Recording in the West Texas desert without an engineer, the duo employed a kaleidoscope of genres – ranging from disco to psychedelia, from krautrock to punk – all culminating in pure pop.
