CANADIAN SINGER SONGWRITER JULIE C RELEASES HER SOPHOMORE ALBUM STEADY GROUND

Toronto, ON – Montreal born artist Julie C (Julie Crochetière) is thrilled to announce the release of her second album Steady Ground (Fontana North Distribution / Universal Music Canada) on March 1, 2011. The talented singer / songwriter released A Better Place, her debut album in 2007, which led to several award nominations and sold over 30,000 albums independently. The latest project showcases a more mature sound, allowing Julie C to free herself from any creative restraints and to trust her instincts, creating something that truly represents the powerful woman behind the voice.

“This album is a true representation of where I’m at,” says Julie C. “I’m taking chances, doing things I’ve never done before and I’m becoming a better, stronger person because of it. There are some melancholy songs on the album, but I’ve also learned to write about my happiness. The life of this album is allowing me to find my balance, to find my ‘Steady Ground’”.

The French-Canadian chanteuse previously explored the pop genre while part of former pop group Sugar Jones, and delved into soul-jazz on her debut album, A Better Place. On Steady Ground, Julie C offers listeners a fresh sound with a contemporary soul feel fused with a touch of cool, club and sex appeal. While a more mature, assured artist has emerged, none of the vivacious and captivating personality of Julie C is lost, as fans will soon find out when they explore this latest offering. The album was produced by Ron Lopata (Tomi Swick, Lindi Ortega) and includes tracks that range from soulful clap-alongs to energetic, funky songs, all inspired by her real-life experiences.

In the fall of 2010, Julie C released Tomorrow, the first single off the new album, a crafted verse-chorus song that was nominated for a Smooth Jazz Award in 2010. So inspired by her first trip to Jamaica, the songstress returned to re-record a unique version of Tomorrow at Bob Marley’s Tuff Gong Studio with legendary drummer and producer Sly Dunbar (Bob Dylan, the Rolling Stones, Peter Tosh). The video for the single was directed by Canadian singer-songwriter Jeremy Fisher and is currently in rotation on MuchMoreMusic. The single was supported by select shows and performances across Ontario and Quebec including a coveted showcase spot on the Canada’s Walk Of Fame Festival in October. 2010 also saw the release of the Putumayo Music album, Tribute to a Reggae Legend, a multi-genre album that featured Julie C’s rendition of the Bob Marley song, Mellow Mood.

In 2009, Julie C was nominated for Best New Song and Best Female Vocalist at the Canadian Smooth Jazz Awards. Her first single, Precious Love, from her debut album soared to #18 on the Canadian AC charts, spent 20 weeks in the top 20 and was nominated for Best AC Song at the Canadian Radio Music Awards. Throughout 2008 and 2009, she was busy performing at festivals and venues throughout Canada, USA, France and the UK.
In addition to the release of Steady Ground, Julie C will continue to perform in support of the release, including a March 2 album launch event in Toronto.
