HARRY BROWN
DIRECTOR: DANIEL BARBER
Starring: Michael Caine, Jack O’Connell, Emily Mortimer
Set in modern-day Britain, HARRY BROWN follows one man’s (Sir Michael Caine) journey through a chaotic world where drugs are the currency of the day and guns run the streets. A modest law-abiding citizen, Harry Brown is a retired Marine and a widower who lives alone on a depressed housing estate. His only company is his best friend Leonard (David Bradley). When Leonard is murdered by a gang of thugs, Harry feels compelled to act and is forced to dispense his own brand of justice. As he bids to clean up the run-down estate where he lives, his actions bring him into conflict with the police, led by investigating officer DCI Frampton (Emily Mortimer) and Charlie Creed-Miles.

9TH COMPANY
DIRECTOR: FYODOR BONDARCHUK
Starring: Alexei Chadov, Artur Smolyaninov, Konstantin Kryukov, Ivan Kokorin, Artem Mikhalkov, Mikhail Porechenkov, Fyodor Bondarchuk, Mikhail Evlanov, Ivan Nikolaev, Soslan Fidarov.
Some viewers may see “9th Company” as Russia’s “Apocalypse Now” or “Full Metal Jacket” – but Fyodor Bondarchuk’s directorial debut stands on its own. It’s Russia’s first real war film. Not anti-war, not militarist – but a genuine war film. Not about the glories of Russian weapons, but about the glory of those who will fight with them down to their last bullets. Fyodor Bondarchuk makes his directing debut at the age of 38 – the same age at which his father, Sergei Bondarchuk, made his own classic “Destiny of a Man” back in 1959. That film caught the collective experience of a generation whose life would change forever after the night of June 22 1941. “9th Company” is a collective memorial to those young men who never reached their own maturity, perishing in the mountains of Afghanistan, in Abkhazia, in Chechnya…
