Dist: Sony Music Canada
Of all the major alternative rock bands of the early ‘90s, Smashing Pumpkins were the group least influenced by traditional under ground rock. Lead guitarist/songwriter Billy Corgan fashioned an amalgam of progressive rock, heavy metal, goth rock, psychedelia, and dream pop, creating a layered, powerful sound driven by swirling, distorted guitars. Smashing Pumpkins became the model for alternative rock success. Their latest full album, Zeitgeist, released in 2007 debuted as the #2 selling album in america. One of the biggest core alternative rock radio groups that continues to appeal to a new, younger audience as well as to their original fans. TEARGARDEN BY KALEIDYSCOPE VOL. 1/ SONGS FOR A SAILOR Is the first in the “teagarden” series with additional releases planned in 2010.
ARC ANGELS
Living In A Dream
www.arcangelsmusic.com
Dist: Universal Music Canada
The foundation of the Arc Angels was laid at the Austin Rehearsal Complex (Whose initials inspired the first word of the band’s moniker).
There Charlie Sexton had a writing room where he was preparing for his next solo album, Doyle Bramhall II was writing and rehearsing under a development deal with Geffen Records, and Chris Layton had a drum room where he and Tommy Shannon would practice. The initial idea was for a jamming band to play around town when Stevie Ray Vaughan was off the road but nothing came of it. But after the death of Stevie Ray, the Arc Angels became a musical outlet and inspiration for all four band members.
With the release of their debut album on Geffen records the band preceded to tour for 3 years with appearances on David Letterman, Jay Leno and Conan O’Brien. Overloaded with talent the band came to an abrupt halt, breaking up in 1994. Chris and Tommy continued on with Storyville (Another Austin success story) as Doyle and Charlie revisited their solo careers. Doyle eventually moving on to perform with Roger Waters and then to become a member of Eric Clapton’s touring band, while Charlie spent five years on the road with Bob Dylan.
This two-disc set from the Arc Angels includes 14 live tracks recorded at Stubbs amphitheatre and Antone’s along with three new studio tracks. From down and dirty blues to straight ahead rock and roll the music just never stops. This is truly the ultimate set of music from the Arc Angels!
